4th St Elevator

SE View from 4th St Elevator - Fenelon Place

This is the view from the top of the 4th St (Fenelon Place) elevator. In the background you can see the Julien Dubuque bridge. This bridge is named after Dubuque's namesake, Julien Dubuque, the French Canadian fur trapper. This bridge goes over the Mississippi River and connects Illinois to Iowa (US Highway 20 is the road).

The light colored church tower you see in the middle of this photo is St. Raphael's Cathedral. This is the home church for the Archdiocese of Dubuque, which covers about 1/4 of the state of Iowa. Historically, Dubuque has many Roman Catholics - many came from Germay and Ireland during the 1800's.
