Anglo Irish Bank sign - one of the fastest growing banks during the Celtic Tiger years

About the course

BUS 379 The Rise and Fall of the Celtic Tiger is a 3 credit, advanced general education course in the "AC" (Cultural Traditions Across Generations) category. The course serves as a way to study culture through an economic/business lens, focusing on the time-period of 1990s-2000s in which the Irish economy went through a huge transformation. Before the "Celtic Tiger years", Ireland's economy had been one of the poorest in Western Europe, many pundits stating that it was a third-world country. But in a period of less than 20 years, Ireland zoomed ahead, leading most countries in per capita GDP and becoming home to some of the most expensive real estate in the world!

Students will study how this rapid transformation resulted in social & cultural changes to a once sleepy country.
