Physics 110
Course Description:

This is an introductory, algebra-based physics course that satisfies the requirement for life sciences, sport science, and health care professions.  The topics covered in this course include solid and fluid mechanics, acoustics, and thermodynamics.  A second semester course offered during the spring continues this study looking at magnetism, electricity, optics, and introductory modern physics.  A goal of this course is to introduce students to the concepts, principles, and methods used to explain and examine fundamental physical behavior of matter and energy.

Lecture Meets:  MWF from 2:00 to 2:50 in Science 128

Text: Serway and Faughn, College Physics, Enhanced 7th ed.

Laboratory Meets:  Thursday (3 hour lab as scheduled) in Science 128

Laboratory Instructor:  Kris Thompson

Lab Text:  K. W. McLaughlin, Phy 100 and Phy 233 Laboratory Manual, Fall Semester 2007

Physics Lecture on Momentum and Collisions
Not all of these notes were covered in the class.

Prerequisite
:
Math 117 or equivalent

Homework:
Homework assignments will be assigned daily and be collected once a week. Late homework will not be accepted for grading.

Quizzes:

Expect a quiz at the end of the lecture most Fridays.

Examinations:
There will be two 1-hour examinations and a final.  Each of these exams will be closed book and notes.  Exam 1 and 2 will be given during your laboratory period.
