Loras Prepares for 175th Commencement Ceremony; Analytics Business Symposium
Celebrates Faculty and Staff Awards

Loras College will hold its 175th commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 1:30 p.m., in the Rock Bowl Stadium. A baccalaureate Mass will be held at 10 a.m. in the Athletic and Wellness Center, located near Loras Parkway and 17th Street. Elizabeth Rogers, M.D. ('01), assistant professor at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, will serve as the Loras commencement speaker.

On March 21, 2014, Loras held its Annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Awards to highlight and honor tenure, promotions, sabbaticals, anniversaries and honors for excellence and leadership.

A new program made possible by a generous, anonymous $50,000 gift has already garnered national media attention. Loras College recently launched The Loras College Public Opinion Survey Center, a unique resource to the College's many experiential learning opportunities.

Loras College is home to one of the top 12 collegiate newscasts in the nation, according to the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). Loras College Hosted Chemistry Olympics, Awarded $15,000 in Scholarships
The Loras Chemistry Club hosted the Chemistry Olympics on April 11, 2014, at St. Joseph Science Hall. The annual, daylong event run by the students allows high schools students to compete in five events that test laboratory and content covered in general chemistry. MORE>>

For Loras sophomore Maggie Saenz Ruiz, it wasn't until two years ago that running was anything more than training. For Saenz Ruiz, her high school didn't sponsor a cross country or track & field program. For her, running was just a part of training for soccer, a sport that she had played since she was nine years old. MORE>>
Students Contributed Nearly 82,000 Hours of Service to Community, Dance Marathon Breaks Another Record
The official numbers are in: during the 2012-2013 academic year, more than a thousand Loras College students performed nearly 82,000 hours of service. This year, the total surpasses last year's record service hours of 58,000 by nearly 24,000 hours. MORE>>
